There is a big flea marlet right down the end of my road in Hollis. It is on both sides of the street. i got a rally nice pet carrier today, perfect for chickens! LOL Also a nice lot of jewelry for 5 bucks and they allways have awesome flowers and veggie plants too. Got a huge hanging petunia for 6 bucks. It would have cost around 20 at the garden center at least! Oh and of course I could not pass up the crypt keeper doll! Had to have him!

Yes, I used to like that one also years ago when I used to drive. Donny doesn't like stopping at yard sales or flea markets unless he see something he likes........lol
I should go somewhere today. 3 chicks hatched out this morning. I think two are from my frizzle girl x silkie and the other is from the eggs I got from the lady that heather bought the red hens from in Tilton. I can't remember if she said they were RIR or NHR's. It is only day 20 on these. I have been trying to keep busy so I won't be tempted to help them in any way. I don't want to let out the humidity and shrink wrap them.
Donny went fishing.

I think those were NHR if I remember correctly. I am looking for a RIR pullet bantam size. I have an egg pipping today is day 21 for 2 dozen remaining eggs and it has not moved any bit since the pip yesterday. I can hear it peeping and if it is not out by 6pm, I am opening the bator to take it out. I dont care, I would rather take the time to help them out rather than have them come out with curled toes and all crusty'd up goop on them. It is a small d'anvers egg, so maybe the small eggs have a harder time. The eggs I got from you have not even pipped yet and I cannot candle them to see inside if they are alive. Today is day 21 so how long should I wait? do your go on day 21??

OK, so I am seriously thinking of getting totally out of chickens. I am so tried of this humidity issue. Two nights ago it was 70 with eggs due to hatch yesterday and today, 2 eggs have pipped since Sat. morning and have gone no further and the humidity is now reading 60 on one meter and 58 on the other. I have been resisting opening the bator which is what I normally would do when I see no progress in an egg in 24 hours. If this hacth goes as poorly as my past ones, I am sticking to my free range flock and that is it. This gets to be very expensive and heartbreaking too.

Let them go a few more days. The EE eggs are hard to candle anyway. You probably won't see anything in them.

You know, I have never understood this "Locked Down" method.

If the humidity is below 50, I add water no matter what day of incubation it is.

And 60 for the last three days is nice, but the chicks hatch never the less as long as 50 is maintained. They even hatch with the egg turner still on.

70 is too much..they drown

I never poke around for long, but I do fix things if needed.

I like the incubator with a fan, not still air - keeps a more even temperature.

Plus, I find that chicks like to hatch out at night, perhaps they like the darkness, so I cover the bator windows when pipping begins.

Yes Joanie, I also add water when I think it needs it and ignore that lockdown rule. I just seem to allways have to help the smaller eggs hatch out. The mixed breed eggs or larger eggs all hatched out no problem. What the heck is the difference? I just checked on the little d'anvers that had pipped 2 days ago and picked of a tiny bit of the shell and he is cemented in there, so a cup of warm water, a soft cloth and a craft paintbrush with about 6 minutes of time and he is out and drying off. If this is what I have to do to help, then I will do it, I cannot sit idly by and listen to them cry out in distress and know that they died because I was worried about loosing more humidity. Heck, I dont even have the heart to eat my chickens eggs, I have to buy them in the store! I know....I am sick!

Does anyone know how to look up eggs on this site that you purchased? I bought eggs from someone and now i cannot remember who it was and want more.

Before you give up go to walmart and buy the black accurite hum and temp gage. they are like $8.00 and work so much better than the white ones (put them both in the bator when you get it to see if they are they same, my whites were always off)

If your keeping the bator shut from day 18-hatch then it really sounds like your hum gage is lying to you. Cant hurt to try.

If you have to open it, mist it with warm water and add more water for humidity at that time so you won't have to open it again.

Or you can do what I do to up the hum during hatch. Keep a sponge in there under one of the vent holes. Using a straw and syringe drop water on the sponge (dont do to much at one time it brings it up quick) this way you never open the bator.

I also agree 70 is to high. 70 causes sticky chicks and most drown. I up mine to 55-60 and they seem to hatch out fine.

Yah know Darlene maybe its not you. Maybe its your adult birds? How old are they ? What do you feed them?
