chicken thief (caught)

That's so cool!!! I'm glad you caught the guy, I've been waiting for an update....kinda sad about the no pics thing, but I understand....I read the whole darn post for nothing!!!! LOL!!! You're lucky the guy didn't get hurt, though, I'm glad it all worked out. There's definately a lot to consider, a 12 ft drop ain't a joke, especially when you're not expecting it. At least the sheriff knew about it and the trap was checked quite often. It would've sucked if he'd fallen just right to break his neck

GOOD JOB!

People, keep that in mind before you decide to follow the panner crowd!!!

He made a VERY educated and experienced decision before he did this, and he was VERY aware of the possible dangers.

You are blessed to have the law on your side.
I can only imagine that if someone tried something like that around here, the person who dug the hole would end up in jail or some lawyer would file a lawsuit against you... "all I was doing was trying to look at the chickens and..." you get the drift..
It's sad that what is right is wrong and visa-versa anymore.

Anyone thinking this a joke is welcome to come take a chicken from my yard, then come back for seconds. I will not put up with a wild predator, but understand them going after the chickens. As for a human predator, well I understand there are children viewing this site, so I can't use the language needed. If I see them, they will recieve a load of rock salt if I can get close enough the first time. If that person comes back, it will be number 9 bird shot at a little longer distance.

Corrected .. Ok Maybe I was wrong Panner really did dig traps for humans.
I had 7 pekin chicks stolen in May. I think this was children. They let all my chickens out. I had a time trying to round the hens up.
Then I had 8 Red sixlinked pullets stole out of my brooder over a period of 6 weeks. I am pretty sure this was an adult.
I would let panner dig 12 foot holes in my yard if he was near me.

Ah! That's what I was missing. Yeah, if it was an overhang, no way. I guess if you could dig the pit with an overhang, it would probably be pretty precarious and the risk of getting buried if it gave way would be real.

Climbing overhanging rock, totally doable if you are strong enough. Overhanging dirt? I can't see how that could work. Unless you could somehow cause the collapse of the overhang without getting caught in it. Hmm...

Wow! Wild West Law and I'm all for it!

I think it's great and I'll have to remember that one. Two of our neighbors were just robbed by one of their former employees, disgrunted and on drugs. Too bad they didn't read your post first.

regardless , but if someone was to get hurt or killed , it would all be declared PREMEDIATED and or entrapment . ONLY way it would not be considered that , is to put warning signs around the holes . SO being that you do not want to prewarn anyone , its entrapment .

He said no pics, PP. He doesn't want anyone getting into trouble for copying him.

Oh okay, didn't see that. Well couldn't someone just copy him by reading this?

Sorry I put this one on the site. Mad at the time. NO ONE, not even me should do what I did. Yes, someone could try to copy digging the hole. And if you know an old vet, he might help you. He would most likely tell you to go visit the devil. There is a lot more to it than just digging a hole.

Everyone must realize I knew all the dangers of this. I am very lucky the man was not hurt or killed. I am fully aware of some lawsuit that might have resulted from this act, both criminal and civil.

I ask that NO ONE ever try this. It is much to dangerous. I put a weight trigger on this, thinking I might be able to keep a child from becoming trapped. Many teenagers weigh more than 150 lbs., which is what it took to trigger it. Where would I be if that happened?

I will never send photos of dead animals or any thing that might injury someone. If I can ever figure out how to put up photos on this site,
I will put up photos of live critters. Some here can vouch for the photos of live critters. Deer and wild turkey are always feeding in the chicken yards. Had to build a ten foot fence around the garden to keep the deer out, can't go that high on the yards.
