After reading all the replys, I will try to answer all the questions. The dirt was moved to behind a barn and will be replaced. Had it been my that found him in the bottom of the pit, it would have been very hard not to just fill up the hole. It would have been a fitting grave for the gentleman. There will be no photos for I don't want anyone trying this. Both the sheriff and I learned this trick in Viet Nam. We (I) was very lucky this person was not hurt or killed. Had a child walked across this trap nothing would have happened if they didn't weigh more than 150 lbs. The trap had laced slating and covered with a light covering of dirt and either pine needles or leaves from a near by tree.
Anyone thinking this a joke is welcome to come take a chicken from my yard, then come back for seconds. I will not put up with a wild predator, but understand them going after the chickens. As for a human predator, well I understand there are children viewing this site, so I can't use the language needed. If I see them, they will recieve a load of rock salt if I can get close enough the first time. If that person comes back, it will be number 9 bird shot at a little longer distance.
