Chicken vent red and swollen, and yellowish inside. Stinks!

Looking at some of your history, you had another die about a month ago. Were you able to get a necropsy? If not, then it would be good to have this hen for necropsy so you can figure out what is happening and give the proper treatment if any.

I'm not seeing worms in the poop.

A necropsy would cost upwards of $100, which I can’t afford at this time. 😣 I looked into it for the last hen I lost.
I’m going to start a new thread for the sick chick I have inside. She’s gotten worse, and her eye is swelling. 😢

Well, years ago I had some die of it , having seen Capillaria in their feces before.
The Veterinary Poultry Institute Hannover ( https://www.tiho-hannover.de/kliniken-institute/kliniken/klinik-fuer-gefluegel/ ) I sent their bodies to for a necropsy stated that same fact in their final results.
Ever since I even deworm the young ones on a regular basis with very good results.
There's no doubt that Capillary worms are the most dangerous worms that can infect chickens, by their sheer numbers. They are too small to be seen in feces. Besides, parasites rarely leave their host unless they die of old age or birds are overloaded and they go out the rear end.

I'm glad you wormed the young ones early. I just got through worming my flock day before yesterday including 6 week old chicks. :)

I also live in Ohio. If a family member can drive a chicken’s body, kept cold, to the state poultry lab near Columbus for a necropsy, they told me last year that it would only cost $23 for a backyard chicken. It doesn’t cost anything to talk to them on the phone for future problems. I spoke with the state pathologist. They may ask if you want additional studies for an extra cost. They also said that they have to send the report to your local vet. But that should not cost you any more.

Doing a home necropsy is what I do most of the time when I lose one. It is best to take pictures of the organs, or have someone else do that, and post them here on your thread. We may be able to help you identify a possible problem.
