does anyone know how chicken wire holds up with weed wacking? I have some pretty big gaps under my fence and id like to block those areas off with chicken wire, so my chickens dont go under the fence to my neighbors yard. Theres about 8 panels that are tall enough for them to fit under. I thought about buying some wood but id need about eight 10" x 10' pieces.

I have chicken wire on hand, 4'x50' so i can easily cut it down the middle to get the length i need but if the weed wacker will easily kill it.. i dont wanna waste the wire..

I'm a landscaper, and use the heaviest line I can use in my trimmer. I believe it's .110"

I've had the unfortunate privilege to trim around all sorts of fencing. Poultry fencing is not very strong. If it's pulled tight, and all edges are fastened or framed, it takes a little more abuse, but you will eventually break through it. If the bottom edge is loose, I bend it up very easily.

Ok ty so much for letting me know. I guess chicken wire wont work for what I need then..i appreciate your help :)

let me get this straight...you want to use chicken wire to contain chickens?

Then why do you even need to weed wack? The chickens will take care of that for you. There will be no weeds to wack.

Weeds will still grow outside of an enclosure. I whack around my run at the end of fall, just so it stays trimmed for a while.

skip the chicken wire. choose a wire roll with slightly larger holes that they can stick heads thru. then they will clear all the weeds from along both sides of the wire out to about 6 inches.

I have a fencing roll dividing my back yard. the lower section is like 2x3 ish or something about that size. On the other side there is a perfectly trimmed grass/weed line up and down the fence. they stick their necks thru and trim a perfect grass/weed line.

I used to do that actually, but we know there's quite a bit of coon activity back and forth (our set up is next to a creek, aka wildlife highway) so for safety's sake, and to deter rats as well (that was also a problem!), we've since wrapped the bottom few feet of the run with hardware cloth. So no more chickens poking their heads out. :hmm
