Chicken with egg shell stuck in vent!!! I NEED HELP NOW!!!!!!!

The danger is not giving her enough calcium so it doesn't help her contractions. If you have any Tums in the house, give her one of those. Break it in half and give both halves to her in addition to the calcium pill from your grandmother.

Be sure she has water to drink. Getting dehydrated will make this much worse. Put some sugar in the water to elevate her glucose so she won't go into shock.

ok going to do that now. My aunt has doxycycline, zithromax and sulfa for fish. My mom also has amoxicillin for humans. She reacted to it and was not able to take it and has leftovers. Will any of that be worth a try? I can go to TSC tomorrow and get something else but for now I can do any of those

Use the amoxicillin. It's the same as the fish meds. What is the dose in each pill? You want to give 250mg.

Wait two hours before giving the antibiotic so the calcium won't dilute the strength. Space each calcium and amoxy dose two hours apart.

Ok, thank you. I am syringing the calcium as a slurry/with water as she wouldn't take the capsule. How do you suggest giving her the amox tablet? It's a good sized pill. THANK YOU

Is the amoxy pill 250mg? Pry open her beak and shove the pill in. You must not dilute the dose. The same goes for the calcium. You could have shoved the whole pill into her beak and she would have no problem swallowing it. Chickens don't have the same problems with pills as people do because they have no teeth so their swallowing mechanism allows for large things to simply fall into their crop from the esophagus.

Sending good vibes your way! You are doing a great job tending to her. I hope she gets better soon.
Thank you that means a lot. I will be getting up at 2am to give her the antibiotics. Yes I believe its a 250mg. I already feel like a zombie so why not add one more reason to look the part too?
