I seen my one Barnevelder eye looked as though she was crying with a tear drop in the corner of her eye. Her other eye looks totally fine. The next day it had more of a tear kind of foamy

in it. Attached are photos does anyone know what this is and what I should do? Is it contagious?

Just as a side note, I can see through your chickens nose all the way back into daylight. LOL Very cool pics.
There is tons of info on here about CRD and from experience Denaguard is the best meds. there is no cure. Once they have it its for life. Yes it is contagious but manageable.

Hi @ldamp
Is the discharge in just the one eye or both?
Good question by @granny hatchet - does she have any other symptoms-coughing, sneezing, etc.

I too see that her nostrils are clear right through them:D

It could be a respiratory illness like Mycoplasma, but with only one eye affected and (hopefully) no other symptoms, it could just be an eye infection from a scratch, peck or getting something in the eye.

General care would be flushing the eye with saline and applying an ophthalmic ointment like Terramycin or you can use something like ciprofloxacin eye drops which can be purchased online.

If you feel she needs antibiotic treatment in addition to flushing/applying ointment, then use Tylan50 given at 1.0cc per 5lbs of weight give it orally 2-3times per day for 5days in a row.

I agree with Wyorp Rock. It could be mycoplasma (MG) and that is pretty common in a lot of backyard flocks. I would try the Tylan 50 orally to see if it helps. The eye may have crusts from the drainage, so it is good to clean them well. The eye drops or ointment are good if they get goopy.

I had a hen who would get foam in her eyes when it was very cold. She never had any other signs of respiratory issues. It usually went away when temperatures would get warmer, and she never had it in warm weather.
