Wow, tons of majestic horses! :love  I used to be obsessed with them when I was younger, but growing up has somehow turned me into a bird person.

Guess what?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Come March, our already-too-large flock is going to be expanding once again! :celebrate   We ordered 2 Welsummers, 2 Blue-Breasted OEGBs, 1 Silver Spangled Hamburg bantam, 1 Buff Brahma bantam, 1 White Silkie bantam (our FIRST Silkie ever!!!!!!! :weee ), 1 Black-Tailed White Japanese bantam, 1 Black East Indie duck (which is a bantam variety), and 1 Snowy Call duck! :ya  I'm busting out of my skin with excitement!!!!! :lau

YAY! We MIGHT be getting Silkie chicks this spring!!!! It all depends on whether our friends have baby Silkies this spring. But we're defiantly getting some sort of chicks this spring!!!!

Yes!!
i have checked Wilco, looked at the local feed store, (i don't think they get them yet though) then a bunch of places online

I dont want to get them shipped because i'm afraid i might get a rooster, my aunt had them shipped twice, she got 2 roosters. not sure who she bought them from though.

Knowing you, you probably have 10 pairs in mind for me rather than just one!

Chicks and spring simply go together.

I can see why you're afraid of hatcheries.

Mistakes happen everywhere. But one thing I've learned is that you aren't safe even buying from a store. We picked out six lovely little EEs during a shopping trip at Rural King a couple springs ago, and what do you know - a little cockerel popped up in the bunch!

However, we've ordered 35 or more chicks from Meyer Hatchery (where Alex was hatched), and only one "oops" occurred.

I'm so hoping you can find that little Campine you've been after, no matter where it's from.

Well IF we get Silkies they'll be white and if we don't we will get a mixed pack at a hatchery that contains: Rhode Island, BSL, RSL, Plymouth Rock and a couple more. Just the plain breeds. We'll probably get then in the end of June. So spring/summer. I REALLY hope we'll be getting Silkies. We're not going to get as many as last time, though, because 11 was too many for my mom. I think we're just getting 5.

O O!
I really REALLY want some of the fancier breeds but here in Canada we don't have many hatcheries so... The only place that's near us that sells fancy breeds is our friends. I hope that one day we'll have a nice hatchery but for now I'm going to stick with the more plain breeds.

White Silkies are adorable! The "other" breeds sound equally as nice, though, and I'm sure you'll be thrilled either way.

That will be a great number.

One question, since you live in Canada, they must be decently cold-hardy?

Yes that's one thing we have to consider with chicken breeds and living in Canada. We do have some big comb hens and some small ones and they're fine living here but if you aren't careful you can have a huge frost-bite problem. I'm researching all the time about keeping chickens in the cold.
