Eight nest boxes. Only one other was occupied.

Even a death stare didn’t deter ole Floofy…the original occupier (Austra White) ended up jumping ship.

Chickens are so weird.

I've had three hens in a single nesting box. The box was one unit in a six-box unit. There were also several other nest boxes within 10 feet of them.

I commonly find 6 or 8 eggs in one box, three or four in another, singles and doubles in some while the rest of the boxes go empty.

Current nest box setup is in crude drawing one (regardless of the number in between, they ONLY want to sit on the ends).

And clearly I’m not the only person with this challenge - a bunch of kindergartners screaming in their pen because someone else is in their favorite spot.

So has anyone tried to design them like crude drawing 2? Is it the safety of being snug against the wall? Or would they just end up fighting about the two on top because chickens are just weird, end of story?

I don't think it would matter how you designed the boxes; they'd figure out a way to make you crazy for thinking you came up with something chicken proof.

I found out that if I put three or four eggs in an unpopular box, it'd suddenly become a highly desirable piece of real estate. I'd come back in the afternoon and there'd be 5 or 6 more eggs in it. If I didn't seed the same box the next day, they'd revert back to the old favorites.
