Chickens carry tons of diseases... (CPS alert!)

I hope we don't get into a bashing/defensive/offensive thread thing here . . .

The reality is, there are good and bad guys in every profession. Unfortunate, but true. The bad guys can spoil the reputation for others. CPS, police, medical professionals, lawyers, teachers--they've all got good and bad; they need to be judged separately, as individuals based on their own merit and their own behavior.

Folks who are "power hungry" creep up everywhere. . . and then there are the good folks that go un-noticed and/or undeservedly bashed.

So, thank you to all of you in your respective professions who are altruistic and make the world a better place, and to the rest of you power-hungry, eager-to-accuse-and-abuse, I giftto each and every one of you a used vacuum.

GreyEyed, I am a foster to adopt parent. I can tell you that I have heard a "little" about my chickens in a negative way. Especially when I hatched some eggs, (the kids first time seeing a hatch, I thought that was more important, duh), but anyway, they have made cracks about, oh, thats what that smell is? And other such nonsense. Even though I knew they were just joking, (cause I keep it very clean), it ticked me off. Then we got a new worker who "hated" chickens! She opened up with some cracks, but that was the extent of it. I have known a lot of parents and foster families that have been put through a ringer by "male" caseworkers. I have no idea why, but they seem to be the worst. Then they get fired for things like Domestic Violence or abuse toward their spouse or their own kids. Imagine that?
Please, for the kids, don't let that stop you from becoming a foster parent. They are sooo needed!

Just remember to stick up for yourself, and don't be afraid to go to a supervisor. Too many foster parents freak out and don't want to say anything. I'm not one of those, can you tell?

Every time I ask the police to investigate a crime involving my personal property they do not have the resources, but when CPS calls they always have a few with them. Maybe that's why? I see the headlines "Crime wave chickens guilty of child abuse parents arrested"

maybe we should start a bail fund for the OP when she is thrown in prison for the chicks??? or plan her breakout?

That irks me too, and I've seen it happen more than once, thank God not to me. The source is ALWAYS someone just trying to "get back."

Once though it was humorous (at least to me) - my daughters stepmom (my daughter was 18 at the time) called the police on her even though she had no real reason to, and the stepmom ended up in Jail overnight. But CPS are nosy folks who do more harm to families than help. And it's true - they often visit situations where kids are in obvious danger and do nothing - yet harass people like you.

You have my condolences for sure!

seriously? wow I will make sure my DH stops picking on all those nasty drug dealers and thieves and murderers and go for the single white woman with kids cause they are easier pickin.... I best make sure he stops trying to arrest the worst kind of criminals and keeping you safe when he does so, maybe I should send him to work with a six pack and he can just hang out and pick on some poor innocent woman as you suggest. You should know right? you go to work with them every night and know their job inside and out. you are there when their partner gets shot in a gun battle with a deranged drug addict right? what was he thinking...he should have been picking on some woman instead of that dang drug dealer!! would have been much easier!! boy he is going to have some explaining to do when he gets home!! I would not sit here and worry so much if I knew he was just picking on woman! dang!

MEOWCLUCKBARK I am sorry you ended up having to deal with an idiot CPS person. I really do hope it all works out in your favor. they are supposed to be here to protect abused kids, not one that has two baby chickens in the bathroom for crying out loud. I would be pretty ticked off too. but it sounds like you have lots of credibility and that guy might end up looking like the arse he is. Dont back down!

Please know that this wasn't directed at individuals that are altruistic and do their job well. I have respect for people in any service field that take their job seriously and do it well. As I said I have a friend that works in CPS, her primary job is monitoring foster homes as a supervisor now. She said that they do get agents like this from time to time and they do weed them out. She's embarrassed to tell people where she works because of the numerous issues people have had with CPS and they've become known as "child snatchers". In my state they have to have a police officer declare the home unfit to remove a child. Unfortunately, it seems like the police often side with the CPS agents more than the parents. There are some unrealistic standards that I'm quite sure aren't being kept even in their own homes. Many of the agents here don't have children. This isn't just my opinion it's fact. The lower ranked agents that come into the homes are often working their way up the ladder and this is not where they want to be. They are often just out of college with a bachelors in social work or another related field. I work with a therapist for my daughter that is a licensed counselor in the state of California, when she moved here she chose not to get licensed for counseling and to work more directly with clients as a behavioral social therapist. It only requires a bachelors degree, she has a masters in social work. She worked for CPS in California and she is genuinely a good woman and I really care about her separate from her job with my daughter. We've sat down to coffee many times if Madi isn't up to meeting with her and just chatted. I've learned a lot from her.

I called her when this all happened and was over and asked her what was going on. She was flabbergasted. She was angry! She said first thing Monday when the offices were all open she was going to start making phone calls.

I don't want anyone to be offended, I can't stop you from being offended, but please don't take this personally at all. This is my experience and those that have chimed in with their own are banding together in mutual agreement from being treated unjust. If it was a freak incident of harassment it would be one thing, but this is something that you hear about all the time and some of us even experienced. I'm not saying some people out there that complain are completely just in their complaint and their stories.

The officers at my home not only were being offensive, treating me like a criminal, and in general accusing me of things that weren't true; but they expected me to sit there calmly and not be upset and take it and agree with them. That was what really sent me over the edge. The fact that me being defensive, angry, and even crying because of their threats to remove my child; were dismissed and I was then accused of being too defensive and emotional. In fact I was pretty calm considering. I was crying. What mother wouldn't cry if someone said they were taking your kid, regardless of the reason.

That's right! Don't be afraid to go to a supervisor. As I said I have a friend that is a supervisor for CPS in the foster program and my daughters therapist that was formerly a supervisor for CPS in home intervention program. They don't stand for that behavior from their agents. They also have a duty to investigate any claims of harassment.
