Hi everyone, we have a noise problem since our five chickens are fighting for the same nesting box. Our chickens cluck before and after laying eggs and sometimes create a chorus that makes my ears hurt. I read in a forum that one person played classical music to quiet down the chickens. Has anyone else used this strategy for noise reduction? I know when I go outside the chickens immediately quiet down, but I'm interested in a longer term solution. I'm willing to live with the egg song, but recently its gotten a lot worse.

Normal. Some dummy eggs in the other nest boxes may help entice them to use more than just the one favored box. You also have to remember that spring is on the way and hormones are running high. There is nothing that I know of to make them stop being so noisy. Some girls just are loud and will do the egg song over every little thing.

Is there only one nest box
there are two nesting boxes each with two divisions. However, they only use one nesting box

Livestock can be very loud. It is a gross misconception that chickens are quite. Especially during egg production. The same applies to Goats. The cartoon myth of a goat will eat anything..so far from true. People don't find out these things until they witness it themselves.
The only solution to minimize noise from your birds would be to only own 1 or two of them. The more you have, the noiser they will be. They communicate a lot. Especially during the egg process.
You could experiment by spreading the eggs from the one to all of the boxes to train them to use the additional boxes. If they all have been using the same box for awhile, you may need to switch over to different box's entirely. They are protecting it and claiming it as their own. They are creatures of habit so it will not be an overnight thing.
If you only have one nest box, there is the core of the fighting.
