I love the roll away nestboxes, and the idea of the curtain... their current “coop” has no nest boxes... they just usually lay in the darkest corner. They didn’t have anything to roost on either, until I built them little low roosting perch stands for it. I’m hoping to convince the owner to let me move them into different accommodations soon. Until then I’m trying to make small changes to improve their conditions... I will certainly look at adding these ideas into my builds.

Yikes, 2 pullets of 5 started laying last Saturday. Collected one egg this am, went out about an hour ago and discovered another egg almost completely eaten. Came in and looked up on BYC and found this thread. Shredded zuchinni, tuna & yogurt treat given to all. Curtains put on nesting box. Added another golf ball. The guilty one (pretty sure she is the one) is now in the nesting box looking for that egg. This can't be a good sign - I hope there is hope. Got them when they were 11 weeks and I've done my very best to make sure they are happy, healthy and have what they need.
Update: Went back out to see what was happening and thought the "guilty one" should get out of the nesting box so moved her out....and she promptly laid an egg right on the floor. Oh, I might be a very very bad chicken Mama today.

Glad I’m not the only one dealing with this!
I scold them when I find an eaten egg... so far the softer food is helping in our case.
