Chickens Fav Treats!!!!

My chickees LOVED the mulberries I threw in their coop today . The mulberry tree was already dropping fruit with the winds we had. I have read in Countryside Magazine that old tyme farmers knew could save lots of money on feed with one mulberry tree.
Also my surplus strawberries from the garden are a smash hit

I gave my ladies a mulberry branch and they couldn't be bothered. They have however been picking the tiny strawberries off my strawberry plant before they have the chance to ripen...
But they love mealworms and go bonkers over the little fried noodles that you put in wonton soup :)

Oatmeal
Yoghurt
Quinoa
Watermelon
Cauliflower
Raisins
Raw sunflower seeds
Chicken crack
MOTHS! They go nuts;)

Maybe I need to cut back on the treats a bit :/

They eat almost anything, but they do not like citrus. All food scraps go to the chickens first as treats, and then the left overs go in the compost pile for them to work again. They prefer raw scraps of potato, squash and some other dense vegetables heated until soft in the microwave. They work my entire garden after they dig out the compost pile.

Mine seem to love purple and red treats the best:
  • grapes
  • strawberries
  • red cabbage
  • red lettuce

They also loved the leftover roasted pumpkin i gave them -- picked the skins clean. They're starting to take a liking to yogurt after at first just shaking it off and rubbing their beaks on the ground. They love cabbage worms, but they're more hesitant about slugs. They've been chasing mosquitoes lately like the good little helpers they are! Grass, carrots, plantain leaves, clover. They don't care for bananas for some reason.

My chooks like any treats better if somebody's holding them instead of them just laying on the ground

you gotta be careful if its a grape you're offering though; they might try to take your finger with it!

My girls love fresh tomatoes, fresh berries and they REALLY LOVE banana. I also occasionally give them dried mealworms, especially in winter.

I don't think I would give commercial processed bread to my chickens [/quote]

My bread is homemade and they have been eating it for years and are very healthy
