I'm good and like you so busy. still every weekend had eighteen hatch from Ravyn's eggs last weekend only thirteen lived haven't had time to take pictures and post them . hatching my own this weekend and Then more of Ravyns next weekend . good thing, the humidity has dropped and I hope for better hatches through fall and winter . I'm going to the sale barn in the morning with maybe twenty young Roosters . Ravyn and OH are selling too so I'll see her . should be fun I like hanging out with Ravyn and Jim . think I'll pop over and see how the estranged are doing .
I think that is so great that you get to hang with Ravyn and her husband!! Wish we all lived closer!! Good luck on your hatch!
Well good luck at the sale and say Hi to Ravyn in person for me! Looking forward to the pictures of the chicks when you get a chance. I finally got a decent picture today of Jack Frost, my Russian Orloff Cockerel. He's changed a lot in the last month - September: October: He's filling out nicely for 6 1/2 months old.
Wowsza!!! He is awesome!!!!
:frow Jack is still pretty mellow, thank goodness, but definitely did NOT like my 3 year old grandson so I just carried him into the coop to get eggs while he was here for the Balloon Fiesta. Jack is much more laid back than my last cockerel, for sure. But he doesn't like strangers. We're putting up the permanent run wall starting tomorrow so we'll be able to walk into the people side of the coop and collect eggs without having to walk through part of the run. Shoes will also stay much cleaner that way. :gig
Oh I hate the "coop" shoes. I have a crawling baby, so I won't even bring them in the house but then they get rained on and it sucks!!

Lovely! Sorry no deer. And you can keep the snow up there please. We moved the lavenders today. It was quite an ordeal, but we all survived. Didn't get done in time for me to climb in my tree stand. Maybe tomorrow...

Now for unpacking pics...

One corner got banged a bit, but you'd never know it from the inside. The egg from that corner had a wobbly aircell, but that's the extent of the damage. The other couple of loose aircells may have been near it--I only took note of the one exactly in the corner.

Nice and tightly packed, big end up and marked with date and breed (though if I can't tell Marans and Sulmtaler eggs apart... ;) )

400

2 strips of bubble wrap at 90 degrees from each other. I untaped the first one, then realized that I could carefully slide the eggs out, which was much easier, with less chance of the egg taking a fast half foot trip...

400

Layer of shavings and bubble wrap on the bottom as well as the top.

400

Reinforced single box.

400

Eggs for the incubator and for Frieda! I'll divide them tomorrow after the post-rest candle. Maybe I'll even be able to see the aircells in the ones Ravyn gathered last

I really like that black... and the splash your DW loves is a beaut!! :)

That is awesome!!! So glad they survived the crunching... I did try something different in packing this time... I think I have a single box figured out now as well as double box...
Yes, I know you could tell them apart, but I date them all and mark the breeds so didn't want the Marans to feel left out... :gig

Oh, and had an awesome day with @BYC910 at the auction... in fact, he's got a coop on his truck for my Ohiki, lol... awesome friend, and I sooo appreciate his help!!!

I see this and think of Chris Ledoux Call of the Wild. Looks like a great day to be hunting. Sorry you didn't see anything today.

Glad you had a great day. And it looks like you did an amazing job packing those eggs.

I wonder if the Silkie eggs disrupted the snug fit too much since they were smaller... I'm sorry... :/

Oh, and I candled the last ones I set last night... Silkie eggs looked good, but the Cream Legbar eggs were mostly clears... I hope yours are better, but looks like I'll need to send you more...

Hey Ravyn, these AM roosters are going fast, so I have a question. I have two blues I that I'm trying to decide between. One has much darker black feathers on his hackles and saddle, has a better type, is bigger, and is pretty much the Alpha, but is showing just two brown feathers on his saddle. The other is a little smaller, a little lighter, doesn't carry himself as proudly, but has no brown feathers showing. Is this what you mean by building the barn before painting? I'm leaning towards keeping the big boy. His type just looks better. What do you think?
