That sucks.  He's so pretty!   And is that my little boy in the background?  :D

Nice that you found some mentors.  Sounds like you are doing your homework and you have time to formulate a good plan.  I think I'd try to get rid of as many as you can now, if you know you aren't going to keep them.  You may end up keeping them till spring anyway, if they don't sell, but its worth a shot to not have to keep them through the winter if you don't have to.

I bet lavender chicks will be good sellers for Easter.  Hmmmm....

I'm trying to (between dealing with a fussy, crying baby :barnie) look up the info on how or what regulations are for shipping birds out of NY. He's a super sweet boy too and turning into a nice gentleman. He'll be a good boy! And I agree with what you said. I'm just so close to having them all be old enough to lay! But it's for the greater good that they go.

Don't feel bad I did the same thing with my Silver Laced Wyandottes. The good news is I can get $20 for a point of lay bird here to recoup some of the cost. We also sell eggs from our RSL's so that buys all the food we need and puts some money in the boys pockets.

A note on selling. If you live near a larger city you might be able to sell more through the year. In under two days I have sold everything from day old chicks, started pullets, laying pullets, and roosters. And that includes just two weeks ago when I sold some chicks. I'm starting to wonder if I could sell chicks year round here.

I'm going to make up a craigslist ad today. And get a feel for what happens. What do you think would be good to buy from a top breeder? One boy, one girl or 2, 3 girls?

They do here, too.  But no one goes until 4th of July except kids.

Why don't kids ever mind freezing cold water??

Ova-Easy 380, picking up later today or this weekend!!!!

:yesss:

2 boys and as many girls as you can afford. I always like to have a backup rooster

If only that were possible in humans...
