Chickens not eating their grains

Have you considered fermenting it or at least serving it wet? Many birds seem to prefer wet feed over dry, so that might encourage them to eat it. Also the protein and vitamins in S&P is in the powdered fines, so by serving it wet it'll help it stick to the grains PLUS it prevents them from picking around pieces of grain they don't like.

Bugs are animal protein and normally that means a more complete array of amino acids than a vegetarian chicken feed.

Just a FYI but most Scratch & Peck feeds contain animal protein.
