Chickens to be publicly fostered, then slaughtered and eaten in art installation in my town.

Not trying to offend anyone but where do you find these people who don't know about chicken farms or where the meat at the grocery comes from? I come from a third word country and know all that information pretty well. I admit that we do live in a society that lacks knowledge but knowledge comes to those who seek it, specially in times when anything you want to know is one click away. In my personal opinion, to display chickens then kill them then eat is simply pointless...if you want to know where your food comes from, then spend a day at a chicken farm, or a dairy farm or a fishing boat, follow the real process of how that chicken at the store or the veal at your dinner table really goes through.
Having a fancy chicken coop, people interacting with them, blah, blah, blah makes no connection. A farmer appreciates and values the food on his table because he/she has invested time, knowledge, energy into his animals, he knows all the work that goes into raising the animal in order to make a meal out of it. Although I don't eat my chickens, I do consume the eggs but I appreciate them, not just because they come from my hens, but for the work and effort that goes prior to that egg is produced ie food, shelter, health, human interaction (happy animals does count.)
If someone doesn't know that the chicken at the store was alived at one point or let me put it this way, if someone doesn't know that a chicken comes from an egg then I'm sorry that is just plain stupidity. We all have a choice when in comes to the level of knowledge we posses and it shouldn't a public killing of animals in order for someone to learn.
I won't even go into that ridiculous idea of calling it art.

They should be using all that fund money to another art...the art of giving to those in need!

They're everywhere. It's not truly people who don't KNOW. It's people who don't care to think deeply enough about it to let it affect the freedom to which they feel entitled for over-consuming these goods. If we all had to grow and process each bit of animal matter we eat, meat, eggs, milk, cheese, honey- we'd eat a lot less of those items. It's not a matter of Liberal or Conservative, or even those with higher education. It's the typical American institution of over-consumption and lack of accountability for taking more than our share...in that the folks who do the dirty work are having to do more than their fair share of the gory, emotional, hard work.

I'm definitely against this becoming a political thread...please don't go there for all our sakes.

It sounds pretentious as all get out, and pretentious things annoy me, but it doesn't bug me beyond that. Same as any public "how-to-kill-a-chicken" demonstration...just with more Apple products in the crowd.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be political just funny

I think per capita uneducated hicks know more about where food comes from than any other group because they have done it not just read about it... butchering I mean. The conservative universities usually teach animal husbandry.

My comment is really going to raise some eyebrows.

Alrighty then.....please keep your cool. This is going to me my work of 'ART'.

I'm going to display a few unwanted stray puppies from the animal shelter. Allow folks to play with them and when the pups' time is up, I am going to show people how dogs are euthanized. This will be a public display for all to watch. Then I will lay the bodies out for viewing.

I'm sure this will enrage many people on this forum. But hey! This is art! I've created strong emotions in people. Maybe a few dog owners will be encourage to spay and neuter their pets. I hope I get an 'A' in my class.

You folks know I would never do such a thing. Some art should be displayed privately. And to be perfectly honest, I did make a video explaining how dogs and cats are euthanized for my speech class. What drugs are used. What to expect, and tips on how to deal with the grief of losing a pet. I used animals donated by the animal shelter. I made an 'A'.

To all who disagree with the use of the word, Art, what word would you use? What is art, but a finely applied technique, perfected through repitition and refinment? Whether it be the art of the hunt, the kill, the skinning, the curing, the butchering, or the cooking. Being an artisan doesn't mean wearing a beret, sipping wine and talking Monet or VanGogh all day.

Maybe some kittens and baby seals to bash.

Art is art because I say it is art. It does not matter if you agree with me or not. Art is in the eye of the beholder. Same goes for you. Art is art because you say it is art. It does not matter if I agree with you.

No one can say what is an is not art in someone else's eye.

In fact in the art community it is usually not thought of as good art unless some is saying its not art.

As a form of art, this is just stupid. But as long as they eat the meat then this is just life ha!

I have 3 roosters and only 3 hens, so the rooster standing up is guna make a good meal a few months down the road :)
(wish I could go downtown and slaughter it infront of a crowd lol :^)
