Chickens who have stopped laying eggs

I dont solely have chickens for eggs. Eggs are just a small part of what I receive or value from my chickens.
My older hens are flock matriarchs showing the younger generations the skills of survival in a free range situation, some are my most regular and trustworthy broody Moms, raising chicks each summer.
My older hens all have names and I couldn't care less if the lay eggs or not.
If I was looking for a profitable money making project, chickens would not be on the list.
Egg production here flucuates along with the seasons. Sometimes I'm selling and giving them away I have so many, other times I get less than I need for my own use.
This is Jade, a samatra mix. probably 7 years old with chicks she hatched last summer. And yes, she still is an egg laying chicken.

We have 4 from our original flock that get to live out their lives with us. But, otherwise, we sell many at auction. We cycle in new birds in the spring usually, so need the room. Having mixed ages is beneficial, particularly with males, as they get schooled very well by the older biddies.
