So we just got our first three chickens the other day and they are doing great other than the ramp! its a rather long and steep ramp. In the mornings when I open the hatch, they huddle around the hole and look down in as if they want to go out but they just wont do it! I will set one on the ramp and it will fly down, then one or both of the remaining will do the same. As for going up..... nothing. I have tried food going up the rungs, catching them and setting them half way up. Nothing... both food and water is in the coop. I should also tell you that all three are right about a year old and the previous owner did not have a ramp, they were free range before with a door at ground level they went into at night. HELP!

I would leave the food in the coop (and water) and let them explore at their leisure. It may take them some time before they feel comfortable.

So are you saying to not put them down in the morning and just let them do it on their own?

If it's too steep you can prop the bottom up with a cinder block or log. Is it smooth or can they get some traction?

I would just open the door and let them venture out at thier own leisure! Throw some black oil sunflower seeds and call them. Do it for a few days and use the same tone and call every morning...make it your routine.. give them time and they will come around!
