They probably would but not nearly as much. I'm hoping you mean letting them free range as opposed to just not feeding them. :) Even if you let them range you should give them at least some laying ration to keep them from depleting themselves and make sure they get the proper stuff for egg making.

They will lay eggs if you do not feed them. But the egg quality without food will be terribly poor and the hens will grow sick, coming to the point of non-laying.
You can feed them leftovers and let them free range. But still, a hen requires enough protein to go through the process. When a hen lays an egg... Her body goes through the cycle again for the next. The next day she lays and egg... So on.

She needs to be healthy. Imagine a little body, of a chicken, producing an egg? The shell needs to be hard- which protein plays a giant role in. That shell is made of calcium and many more nutrients. Without the right nutrients, the egg shell is poor along with the yolk. The yolk will be pale and may not be there. So the food plays a big role in happiness and health. I hope this helps you.

Do to others as you want done to you. You need food, right?
Like the post above mine says, please clarify the meaning to your question. Thank you. :)

Have a nice evening and welcome to Backyard Chickens!!

Sincerely,
-The Angry Hen
