I have 8 chicks that are about 7 weeks old. Just transferred them from coop to the chicken house last weekend, doing great except they won’t get on the roost at nite. Have been putting them on it every nite after it gets dark. They stay on it until daybreak but won’t get on it at nite by themselves. Have never had this issue before. What am I doing wrong???

Most of my chicks will still pile at that age. They will roost when they are ready. It takes skill and muscle strength to grip a roost all night, plus they are still babies and like sleeping in a pile. Most start roosting by 3 months reliably. Broody raised chicks will often start sooner.

I had this problem. The older they got the more they use the roost bar. Don't worry, they'll figure it out.
