Chicks dying, they were shipped today

I've just lost another Buff Minorca. Did you get any of the Gro Gel stuff? I loosely mixed that with water, and I've been syringe dripping it on the beaks of the chicks that are very weak. There isn't much change yet, but, they've not dead either!

Sorry for all the lost chicks. I had similar problems 2 years ago, we ordered 3 times trying to get certain breeds. I was so upset at losing them I didn't order any last year but found local birds from breeders instead. We lost polish, d'anvers, brahma, wyandottes.

Our orders were placed with local feed store that orders from Ideal. If I do order again I will wait until MAY for shipment.

You need Poultry Nutri-Drench. Can get it at Tractor Supply. Top quality emergency nutritional spplement. Excellent for travel stress. Doesn't need digesting so great for chilled animals. Goes straight into the bloodstream. Concentrated, The smallest bottle is all you need. Less than 10.00 . Put in water the 1st 2 weeks of life. Give each chick just one drop on arrival. I've used it on birds and collies (Pet Nutri-Drops) for years.
See their webpage and testimonal page. http://www.bovidr.com/ http://www.bovidr.com/poultry.html
The science techs at Bovidr are very knowledgeable and helpful.

We've just lost another Bantam. Two look like they're on their way out. I just can't believe this, it's a nightmare. We have 9 left out of 28. I've never lost a single chick in all the ones we've got from feed stores.

What are you feeding these chicks? For the 1st 24 thru 48 hours, they feed off their egg sacks. They only need water and chick flint. The very fine chick grit helps the chick digest the egg sack. The Poultry-Nutri-Drench gives the chicks an extra boost.

They were hatched on Saturday, shipped here and arrived this morning. They have chick starter, water, and Gro-Gel in with them. I'm pretty sure they went through their yolk reserve on the long way here.

Feed stores get bad shipments also. You just don't see it, I've been there when bad shipments have come in and seen the employees go through the same problems as everyone else, it just isn't chicks they special ordered for themselves.

This is "good" to know. I have a heart of stone and I'm sat here in tears. Two more Bantams died, and I have one in my hand on it's way out. I couldn't bear seeing it getting trodden on. I feel powerless, nothing I do makes a difference.

I understand how you are feeling. I had such a hard time with being helpless to what they were going through I still haven't ordered more and don't know if I will. I try and find local breeders, some times I can and sometimes I can't. Last year I ordered eggs instead, but I have some hens that will brood at the drop of a hat.

I had a similar incident last week from chicks I bought at the feed store. Had 12, hatched on the 23rd all were fine when I brought them home on the 25th then lost a polish, same as being described here. I bought all the chicks the same day they were delivered to the feed store. The store said they typically order from Ideal but Ideal is in TX and I am in Florida. Seems the cold wouldn't have been a factor so much between the 2 states.
