Typical pox lesions are diagnostic. the lesion is initially a raised blanched, nodule that enlarges, turns yellowish, and progresses to form a thick dark scab..there are two forms, wet and dry.. the dry form effects the unfeatherd parts of the body(comb, wattles, face, eyelids, and legs) wet form effects the mouth, esophagus and trachea. in either form the scab is firmly attached
vaccination is easy, it can be obtained from JEFFERS supply for around $3.00 this will vaccinate 500 birds..directions are supplied with the vaccine

ok i just had a chicken die to day (poor thing) but it was my rir. and it was sneezing and coughing and i didnet know what to do... and i finaly died to today but none of the other chickens have that.. hummm.. but the rir had all of the signs except of depression, marked drop in egg production she has never laid an egg as far as i know.. i got her from a feed store already grown so..idk if she laid or not.. im going to get 2 more on monday and some stuff for the little one..

if there are no other signs of disease of illness (other lesions elsewhere on comb or such) and no respiratory symptoms and such this is probably a benign cyst perhaps (such as described by other member)... I do not think in that case your bird will die from it.
