I'm starting to panic. My chicks were supposed to come this morning and they didn't. According to the tracking info, they shipped around midnight Saturday morning which means they probably hatched Friday evening at the latest. My understanding is they have 3 days worth of sustenance when they hatch. So according to my math, they'll be in trouble by tomorrow. Has anyone else purchased chicks through the mail? Will mine be OK?

Maybe the post office will call soon. It's weird that they would ship on Saturday. I would just be ready with some electrolytes when they come.

I have had several orders of mail order chicks. My last batch took the full 3 days to arrive and out of 31 chicks, 2 were DOA. The other 29 were fine. I made sure they had fresh water with a little sugar in it to perk them up when I took them out of the box. Make sure you take each chick and dip its beak in the water. Hopefully they will be fine.

Had similar situation with some broiler chicks - they arrived alive, but thirsty and hungry. Get each one at least 2 or 3 dips of water (in their bowl) as soon as you can - electrolytes helped a lot as well.

I gave feed as soon as all had gotten water (26 birds!). And then, each got a dose of Poly-vi-sol (no iron) about an hour after arrival. So each got to go from the brooder into a plastic tub (so I knew who had gotten vitamins and who hadn't).

They slept that first day - a lot. I know they were eating and drinking, as both went significantly down! However, they didn't perk up until the second afternoon at 'home'.

I received mine this morning, they shipped yesterday from mcmurray hatchery. I'm glad i read this because a couple of them have slept allot and i was really starting to worry about them. Glad this is normal.

I got my order today. 100 Cornish X plus the mystery chick. All were fine, hungry but fine.

THEY GOT HERE THIS MORNING!!! All but one seem to be in good shape. The Minorcas were the first to eat, drink, and start making themselves at home. Has anyone figured out their "mystery chick" mine almost looks like a raptor in the face, and is brown.

I ordered 15 Buff Orpingtons and my "bonus" chick we think is a Road Island Red. She and 2 of the Buffs have already moved 90 miles aways to my daughters. But I still got a Bakers Doz and I am enjoying watching them grow.

Yes I Have A Mystery Chick, Hopefully It's A Pullet. All Were healthy. We Are Now Going To Make A Bigger Coop, I Want Some Of Their Other Breeds Now. Great company. Very Very Pleased With Their Service.

I think my mystery chick is a Golden Laced Wyandotte. I ordered all females, so I'm hoping its a female too. I have a GLW hen now and 5 Silver Laced Wyandotte pullets.
