Unfortunately none of us here are going to help you restrain yourselves. Next year you will miss the baby chicks and invariably get more. Look at all the fun stuff you have to look forward to seeing. First Eggs, First Hatchlings.....And many many chicken stories. Your friends are going to think you are nuts too. Just try to make sure you go to the grocery store in a clean shirt - not one with chicken poop on it or else everyone will know you have flipped!
I notice you have your water in the "cold room". Be very careful that your chicks are not sitting under the heat starving and dehydrating themselves to death. I try to keep access to food and water within reach regardless of where the chicks feel comfortable.
Also, be prepared to build a bigger brooder if you intend to hold your birds in the house for 6 or 8 weeks! They grow exponentially within a very short time!
BTW... It's nice to see another guy on here enjoying chicken-keeping. Seems like this is a very female-dominated board! lol
My white silkie and white sultan will fall asleep on their feet and then balance on her forehead! It's like the warm light just hypnotizes them and they stop in their tracks.
Bad News Warning. I got home from work tonight to find out that two of the White Leghorns had passed. They we all huddled together sleeping in the door way of the hot room (temp was 100 degrees) and when I opened the lid all but two got up and started cheeping acting just fine. They were acting fine earlier today but now just dead. I got the bodies out immediatly to keep it from spreading but we all know if they were sleeping together it is too late. I'm wondering if they just smothered or just failure to strive. I guess I all I can do is just wait. Any suggestions?
