Chicks pecking at other eggs- blood

What temp is the minimum for the brooder? I have a heat plate that they can go under that is about 100 degrees at the moment but the air in there is under 70 degrees. I'm trying to warm it up, I covered it and added some warm jars of water wrapped up in a blanket. Any other suggestions?
You're going overboard. A heat plate is good enough. They will find the heat if they are cold. Take them and put them in the brooder already.

Thanks so much! I put them in right after I posted lol. My house is so cold (63) so I didn't want to kill them lol. I got it warmed up a bit in there and removed the draft -- crossed my fingers!

Chick are pretty resilient if they have a heat source, mine didn't want heat after 1 day in warm weather and 3 -5 days in cold temps of winter here.

on egg that had blood, is it continuing to bleed or was it just a small speck you could see?
For the ones that got pecked, put coconut oil on the membrane to keep it from drying out or lightly wet a paper towel with warm water, making sure it's not dripping and wrap egg and put back in the incubator
Congrats on the ones that are out and gl on the ones still working on it.

The blood seems to have stopped. It was more than a spec -- not quite enough to drip. I put coconut oil on them. How much? Seems dry again already. Didn't want to suffocate it with too much. :/

it shouldn't be drying out if you rubbed just a dab of cocunut oil in the exposed membrane
, not sure where you are but it may be to much of a humidity drop getting those other chicks out, though that's always worked for me. In the mean time I would prepare for worse case scenario to keep you from opening the incubator, so your prepared if they need an assist out.
Are your temps and humidity verified by other than the incubators readings?

just be thankful your not learning and follow the incubators instructions when they are done for sea level altitudes , and your at high level altitudes.

the heat plates work differently. They give off a radiant heat. Have it higher on one end than the other and be sure they can actually touch it on one end. If it doesn't burn them they'll be fine. My first heat plate was too hot and burned the chicks. Second one worked fine. If the plate is at 100 degrees that should be more than sufficient. Watch them to see if it burns them.

Both chickies hatched this morning. Both also have what looks like the umbilical cord still attached. Do I leave it? They are both walking around.

I didn't do anything with it on my chick. It was pretty funny watching him trying to get it off though. In a day or two it was gone.
great! Thanks - that is what my gut was telling me. The shell on the one fell off, so that's helping its mobility. :) We have another beginning to pip! Yay!

it will dry and separate when it is ready, they will be fine in the incubator until it does. Congratulations on your hatches.
