I got 10 bantam cochins shipped from Ideal last Wednesday, they arrived Thursday, along with 15 males for warmth (either BR or BSL). One of the little extras died en route, but the other 24 babies are all happy and running around like little crazies.

I put paper towels on top of my wood shavings for the first day, and then took the paper towels out on the morning of day 2. They've done fine with it.

I bet you won't get as many extras as I did, since your order is so much larger than mine. We're trying to figure out how we're going to house 14 cockerels until they're big enough to eat. We're going to have to build them their own fence somehow. But they'll taste good come February...

I have an order coming in this week too, dunno what im gonna do with the extra packing peanuts, too much male hormones going on over here as it is. Anyone want my packing peanuts? lol

Great plan Jim... I was considering doing the same thing.

Ordering 10 frizzles next time, maybe they'll send another 15 males. LOL Who in the world can use that many extra roosters??? My husband would KILL me!

11 roos plus the black star ones... not too bad when it's from about 75 birds, I'd say LOL.

I've now got 58 chickens, including 20ish roos. Don't know the total until the cochins are bigger, but pendulum test says there are 5 boys in that bunch. So that gives me 21... if we kept them all, the whole neighborhood would HATE me!

I have really been paying attention to the sound of roosters in the morning since I started comming to this site. There are ALOT of roosters around here. My neighbors on either side of me both have chickens, They are spanish speaking chickens.
