Chicks wasting food.

I let our chicks outside today. They loved it! I have 4 two weekers and 1 weekers.

I do have a question thou. They dig at their food and throw it out of the feeder. They are wasting alot of food. Is there anything I can do to prevent it?

What type of feeder are you using? How/where is it located? Are they digging with their feet or are they beaking the feed out? Knowing this will help in advising how to reduce the feed waste you are seeing.

Lifting the feeder up off the ground will help but unfortunately it's pretty normal

My first step would be to elevate the feeder - chest height eliminates any foot play and also cuts down on the amount of "beaking".

I used a spaniel type dog bowl for chicks. They could climb in but nothing got beaked or scratched out. I would fill by a third. They did get shavings in the bowl jumping in and out
