Victor sighed, asserting “I’m being a gentleman. You’re choosing.” He put a hand on his chin, waiting for her answer.

"How is that being a gentleman if the lady wants the man to choose?" Lucy said, raising an eyebrow in skepticism. She grabbed her bag as she slid out of her seat and headed for the door.

Alexis, questioning not yet quenched, turned at least fifty percent of her focus back to the doctor. She glanced to his left hand. "I take it you're single?" Oh crap. Now she sounded like she was hitting on him. Far from it. Of the two males in the room, it certainly wasn't the doctor that she wanted. "I mean like, you bothered coming here and you're staying here, I guess you don't have—what I'm trying to say is, you're not married?" Anyone who came here to work probably wasn't.

"I understand, but as the team leader I chose risking that over having the mission be comprised." Asa explained reasonably. He was quiet for a moment as he decided how he would explain what happened to Ryker. "Sir, on the way to the school Elliot was about to kill himself, but was persuaded other wise by Zoe. That's when I decided to go the hotel instead. I talked with Elliot when we were in the room, but it was obvious he doesn't respect my authority." Asa paused to brace himself for Ryker's reaction, but decided speak his thoughts aloud for Ryker to understand the reason for his actions. "I'm afraid Elliot isn't focused, he's distracted from achieving our goal here, and is, frankly emotionally unstoppable, so much so he relys on Zoe which makes her preoccupied with what I need her to do. How can I lead this team if I can't depend on Elliot and Zoe when I need them if they're running off to consume themselves with they're relationship?"

" I'm disappointed, that goes without say. But part of this burden of failure in on me. I sent you out with rookies. I should have known better then to take them at their word. Believing the promise that their budding relationship wouldn't become a factor in their performance. Tried and tested, that is who I should of saddled you with Asa." He sat forward and pinched the bridge of his nose as he tried for patience. He then said quietly, " Put Zoe on the phone. I'm going to salvage this debacle. One way or the other."

"Well you've got options, and I'm not talking about myself, so don't get your hopes up," Alexis said with a snort. She waved a hand in the general direction of the wall dividing this room and the next. "If you like em young, and I'm not meaning illegally young, there's the nurse. Looks like you'll be getting to know her plenty on this job." She winked at him as she continued with her seemingly well thought out listing. "If you like em clever, nearer your age, there's Ioan's assistant. Heck, if you like em male, there's Ioan himself. Though I dare say there are already dibs on him. And hey, if you like none of the above, there are always the cooking one and cleaning ones, but I'm not sure they're around as often, so you'd have to be deliberate." She flashed him a smile to let him know she was just teasing. Hopefully what was said here would stay here.
