China disgusts me

That is horrible. I don't think there is much I can add to it.

And I agree the idea of zoos needs to be changed. Once went to a really big zoo, I was 16 and super excited to see the Wolves. Those poor things.. you could just see how bored they were. It made me sad and I had to leave. I cried at the time. It's been another 16 years later, and I'll never look at a zoo the same way again.

A few years later I visited another zoo. Their chimps were on the other side of the glass, looking out at me. I could look in their eyes.. I could see how horrible, and hopeless they felt.

Every time an animal breaks loose and goes on a rampage I think that's what they get for locking up an intelligent creature and expecting it to calmly submit. I have no idea why they think that an animal kept in a cage (enriched cages are better.. but you are still talking about complete lack of freedom) is going to keep it's sanity. Now, I think it's horrible when someone gets hurt, don't get me wrong. But it should also be a wakeup call. Animals were not meant to be displayed like works of art. I appreciate Disc and NG channels and their terrific videos. Yes, sometimes it is heartbreaking.. but at least the animals are FREE.

I guess I disagree that the U.S. cares THAT MUCH about animals. I think we are much better than China, but some of our regulations are ridiculous. Consider, for example, the battery cage laws for the UK over the US.. our standards are HALF THE SIZE per chicken! The UK has many more laws to protect poultry than we do, and seems to me fewer loopholes.

Anyway, I digress. I feel completely sick to my stomach..

I wish this thread would have a warning in the title about the nature of this discussion.. some of these images (not just the article) will be with me forever.

Perhaps you are right. I had posted it because of it's mention of chickens. I am sorry if I have offended anyone.

Of course there are exceptions to every rule - my heart breaks for those people in China who love animals. Let's hope they can work to change things for the better in their country.

I promise I won't post any more sad upsetting stories like this again - here's to keeping it light, upbeat, and chickeny

Feel free to post anything here you want (within the rules, of course). You saw
this article and were completely entitled to post it and did so for all the right reasons.

I say it doesn't belong here because idiots like me will come on and start debating
politics, human nature, etc. Some of us just can't help it.

I doubt you offended anyone either.

Keep Posting!!!

Like Schweitzer's quote says in my sign-off:

"Think occasionally of the suffering of which we spare ourselves the sight."

Just because we don't want to look at it or know about it doesn't mean it isn't happening.

Well look at that tiger that got loose and killed that guy here. They didnt build a proper enclosure for her, and she got killed for it. We cant just go on killing Endangered species that kill people because of what we do wrong. Its just pointless.

Now wait a minute..my "zoo" isn't that bad. It's not a real zoo, there aren't any gift shops or tour guides. But the enclosures are arranged in a zoo-like setting, because occasionally I lead groups through it, once a class of 3rd graders visited. I also give educational talks and shows. It's how the animals earn their keep. I love my pets, but I'm not made of money. My enclosures are huge, they take a lot of work to maintain. And that's without the added danger of having a crocodile or alligator or komodo dragon in there with you as you try to pick up after the animal. My outdoor reptiles get to watch a lot of activity every day (they like to watch the poultry), and they all recognize me by my voice.

One example of entertainment:
My mugger's crocodile, Sam, likes to chase the ducks, swans, and geese out of his enclosure.

You cant even gamble on that!! There are so many lions that you can bearly see the gore.

I dont see any thing wrong with what they are doing except dropping the animal in like that. Thats kinda messed up. But i get a kick out of watching my cats and chickens eat lizards and roaches. I also get a kick out of watching snakes eat rats.

Know whats really disgusting to me? Watching old hillbillys eat at The Old Country Buffet. Or teenagers eat at the mall foodcourt. Its horrid!

Why do people blow their nose at the dinner table??? Excuse yourself!!

On the serious side, i dont see whats so fasinating about it, but i don't see whats so deplorable either. if the owner of the goat approved, and the lions were hungry, I think its a perfect arrangement. Because some one turned a buck charging people to see I'm supposed to be outraged?

Next thing ya know it'll be disgusting and inhumane because the goat wasn't cooked and seasoned properly.

I have been to China many times and for the most part they are wonderful people and one of the few countries that still likes America. When I was there last year by my surprise an air raid siren started blasting the reason why is they are fearful of who? America. To them we are war mongers going from one country to another killing people and being the policemen of the world. Most of them don’t agree with their government and yes they don’t have the rights to protest as we do when we disagree with ours. Yes everything is not perfect there as it isn’t here. Their infrastructure is by no means up to par with ours and they do have a long ways to go but have made substantial progress since Chairman Mao when they were a repressed people having to wear drab gray, having no material wealth, women couldn’t express themselves having to keep their hair short not enjoying fashion and a lot of the luxuries we sometime take for granted. They still don’t have the simple appliance like ovens, microwaves and modern refrigerators in their homes so food must be killed and processed daily, when you go to a restaurant you will pick out your chicken, duck, snake, seafood, turtles, squid alive and they will kill it and prepare fresh for you. Yes the government may have their faults like so many others, and yes there are good and bad in every culture, but from my experience I feel safer there than here. Here in America we are having so many killings, drug abuse, gangs, crime in general, maybe we should look more closely at our own backyard before criticizing another. The bright side of all this is there are wonderful people all over the world so lets not brand everyone.

I too have traveled to many countries and have encountered gracious lovely people all over the world. I have not traveled to China and of course there are good people everywhere. I am not castigating an entire nation of people - I am criticizing their government who sanctions such barbaric treatment of people and animals. One cannot deny that life is cheaper there than it is in other places - that there is less value placed on life. Yes, no place is perfect but as far as I know, there is not a widespread practice of skinning animals alive in this country.

Go to a processing plant and see the atrocities taking place right here in our own country. Sorry for the incorrect spelled word (granite) I’m only human and it won't be my last.
