Wow, I am way out of the loop on this one, since when?!
ETA: I just found the "new" signs dates. I am not a virgo, I am a libra! Always have been, always will be!!!

Our eggs seem to be doing well. Lockdown next Sunday since we started early. We've candled and see many little chicks moving about. So happy! I think our NYD problem was the eggs shipped from across the country since these are 2/3 shipped within 4 hours' drive away and 1/3 local (around the corner).

And our NYD chick who was a bit tardy and the only of the seven eggs we got is growing steadily. We are happy that she's filling out as a Frizzle, since there was only a 2/3 chance of the eggs being Frizzles. Since she has black skin, I guess that makes her a Sizzle???

Sorry the pic is sideways, the upload seemed to change the orientation....

I also have a frizzle from the NYD hatch, although I am pretty sure mine's a boy. He's the only one that still has 'fuzz' over most of his little body and he's the friendliest of the lot. Ah well.

Hi,
Do not have time to catch up right now.
Just wanted to check in.
I don't know what happened, but I was knocked out for about three days and could not get back in even with the help of the administraters.until now.
'O.K. set 18 mixed eggs of my own on set day.about 7:00 that evening Pacific time...
Had a scare night before last.lost power... have 7 three week and 5, 2 week in brooders and the bater of course.
Put hand warmers under bath towels for the chicks.
Oh, they were so cute, just snuggled up to the towel and did not pack on each other.
Eggs dropped to high 70's.
We'll know later if it had an adverse affect.
Will catch up later.
SOOOOOOOO happy to be back:weee
Toni

im thinking of candling tonite but i dont know what a bad egg looks like they have been in 4 days now so anything clear would be a bad one but what else should i look for?

My recommendation for newbies is to NOT CANDLE until at least Day 10. Really. You won't know what to look for, it will just make you frustrated, and who needs that EXTRA concern when you're doing something the first time??

By Day 10, whatever development is there is pretty obvious as "something is alive in there!" Even better at Day 12 or 14.....
