I'm awful for singing to our animals... cows, sheep, goats, pigs, ducks, geese, dogs, cats, chickens... Sometimes my wife looks at me like I'm crazy. But more often, she joins in.
Geese are not "mean as hell" or "tame" by nature. It has a lot to do with how much they are handled by goslings. I let some of my geese naturally incubate babies and they fall under the "mean as hell" category becasue they are fiercely protecive of their young ones and the young ones are consequently untame. However, they are mostly hiss and not bite. When they snap at me, I usually snap right back at them with a loud voice. It doesn't hurt nearly as bad as getting popped in the side of the skull by one of their wings.
I have goslings of identical age which we incubated and raised in the brooder. Some come right up to me and will sit on my lap. I also talk goose to them "honk, honk, honk, honk... ad nauseum" and they just honk back at me for an eternity. They never get tired of having a "who can honk longest" contest with me. They usually win.
