Christian Topic: Bible Translations - which do you like?

even as Christians, sometimes we make stupid mistakes, say stupid things and hurt others regardless. i hope i make a good example here and say, i wont be thumping you on the noggin and telling you how you should be a Christian etc.

it's just a discussion about which version is preferred by whom. and i am glad you participated and felt welcome to the discussion!

Buff, i hope you're cool with that comment...it's your thread...

lol I'm very stable in my own religion which is why I have no problem talking to others about theirs. It's a deeply personal thing. My husband and I are both very open minded people which is why I can pick up his bible and have a read for the expansion of my own knowlege and he can do the same with my things. People ask us all the time how we make a two faith household work and we just don't know. We don't do anything special, it just works for us! I encourage him to attend church and I've gone with him, and he's come with me. We truly have never in the 10 years we've been together had an argument about whether one of us is right or whatever.

Do what makes you happy!

So about the Lip Gloss. Seein that I am a guy and all. I don't really like the flavors. I prefer the ChapStick Medicated.

I don't have a question, I just beg to differ. My preferred bible version is NLT, and that doesn't make me more or less saved than you.

Now, I will

I never said I was more saved than anyone else. My Thoughts were on the word of God. Please don't misquote me.

But no. I have several different versions laying around. I like the NKJV for reading... if I'm gonna STUDY, study, I crack out the KJV, NKJV, NIV, etc...and bible.com.

I'm Lutheran (Missouri Synod). We use the NIV Bible in church.

However, I appreciate using versions that really explain the original meanings of words when studying the Bible. There is an archaeological Bible out there that I really want that has lots of sidenotes about modern historical discoveries that prove various Bible settings and events, but it's very expensive and I don't usually purchase very expensive books. I think I would really enjoy studying from that Bible, however. I find Bible culture and history fascinating.
