Didn't realize it was a confirmed wild bird nest, sorry. Most ducklings around here are domestic. Rouens and muscovies are very numerous and reproduce very well in our warm climate.

Happy ending to report! The little guy is going to a wildlife rehab tomorrow. They said they’ll most likely put him/her with another single duck. We will miss him/her dearly, but we know it’s for the best.

Thanks! He’s taking a ride this afternoon to the vet, who will place him with another Singleton. Tears will be shed, I’ve gotten very attached!

Just wanted to update this thread. I took my single duckling to a wildlife rehab. Left him with his box, stuffed ducky and some money!
I held it together long enough to get back to the car, and cried there.
They’re passing him on to a rehabber who has other orphaned ducklings. He will be sorely missed.
His favorite place was on my shoulder.

Or watching tv on the couch!

What a precious baby. You really will have to get a few duckling to raise!
