The "hen" we have named Claire has been practicing "her" crowing for the last few mornings. I'm still in a little bit of denial, hoping this chicken is actually a hen but who has taken over rooster roles because there isnt a rooster.
The chicken in question is an Ameracauna, and I do have another Ameracauna to compare it to. They're about the same size, similarly colored combs the only difference is that Claire's tail has droopy irridescent feathers; Eleanor has black feathers that stand upright.
After doing some research though it seems that Ameracaunas are especially tricky to sex.
I know it was irresponsible of me, but I have become attached to all of my chickens as pets. So the idea of Claire becoming someones dinner isnt really a thought I like to consider.
Once the chicken starts practicing its crowing, what are the chances it could still be a hen??
