I got a boatload of eggs from fellow BYCers in order to have a lot of differently-colored eggs & chicks for my son's class that is learning embryology & animal husbandry (well, the class that I'm teaching). It only meets every Friday afternoon, with a break in there for spring break, so I had it all planned out that the eggs would be set on the 26th, we'd candle on the 9th, and they'd hatch on the 16th (ish - realizing that some would probably be early & some late, but some would be in the process of hatching during the class). Last week, I get an e-mail letting me know that they've decided to have the school's portfolio reviews on Friday the 16th, so they will not be having electives (which is what my class is). So...after getting the kids all hyped up, they won't be able to see them hatch!

I think I'm going to candle this week (7 days) and be ready to replace any clears with fertile eggs from my own flock, so that, at the next class, we will have both the chicks that hatched the week before, and some more hatching. I'm SOOOOO frustrated, but I really don't want the kids to be disappointed

Darn! That really stinks. You must be really disappointed, but it sounds like you've made a good change of plans. Hope it all works out well, and that the babies hatch well without the class watching. HUGS

That really sucks that they would just drop it on you and mess up the plans, but it seems that you are covering things very well!!! Good luck and I hope things work out for you and the class. Its a wonderful lesson!!!!
