I have a 9+ year-old, almost 4 kg rooster who was diagnosed with E. coli and given clavamox @ 500mg three times a day, which according to the Merck veterinary manual is the correct dosage. This was to go on for 10 days. But what lethargy! He no longer crows and appetite and activity are way down. After 2 days the vet cut it down to twice a day which has resulted in just a little more activity and appetite, but still no crowing. I want to stop it after 7 days and now the vet agrees. An added problem is that he's also being treated for a GI fungal infection with fluconazole. I'm afraid the clavamox will only make things more suitable for further fungal growth. Any ideas?
