Clean your brooders!!

Has anyone used the sawdust pellets that you add water to with chickens. My sister-in-law uses it in her horse stalls and she says it is dust free??

Seems like it might be worth a try. We have nine babies and twelve grown up chickens. I just thought it might get in the sinus cavities, but it should not be a problem if it is really dust free. Would this work for the deep layer method?

That is why my brooders don't stink, but you aren't supposed to add water to them. You can, but I think that would be an even bigger problem with dampness. It works very well, I use it solely for ducklings and mix it with shavings for chicks and quail.

ETA: I also add water to some and let it dry out, and use that in my button quails' pens.

That is why I love BYC!!! Always brings something to my attention. I just hatched some seramas that will have to be brooded longer because of their size, so I'll be extra sure to keep a good eye on the brooders from now on....It always amazed me how fast algae can build up on the waterers...Thanks for sharing even through your loss.........
