You may consider trying a few CX for yourself before making your decision based on what other have said about them being too nasty. I know lots of people who don't say they're too nasty.

Since I don't have any experience of my own, I'm definitely interested in any information those with experience can share. Trying to learn from what others have already done.

Eager to see which you prefer in the long run after raising Dark Cornish and going to meat birds.
At a production level, it seems nothing else is is even possible to raise and expect a profit.
I'm doing this only for myself and maybe friends and family, so it seems a heritage breed is better in my case.

Keep us posted!

I am sure that all of us work hard for our meat. For years the Dual Purpose chickens worked me hard to the bone for 16-24 weeks for a 4.5 lb. chicken dinner.

Then my cost of living whent through the roof and I did as much belt tightening as I could.

Soon I saw other people were making more dinners for much less work. So, I went on strike and picketed the hen house for weeks on end but the chicken union refused me a pay raise.

So, I raised H*** and Brimstone and fired myself in disgust.

Then I hired onto a streamlined operation where I only have to work for 30 days for a deasent sized 1 1/2 - 2lb.meal or 6 weeks for the same 4.5 lb chicken dinner as the DP, or 8 weeks for a belt loosening 8 + lb dinner.

Now I work for the Cornish X as they pay me a much better fair wage plus 8+ weeks of vacation time where I can spend quality time with my grandkids.

We had our cornish rocks in a brooder for two weeks, and they are the messiest birds ... yuck , the layer chicks where clean compared to the cornish rocks. We got those cornish rocks out quickly in their tractor this weekend, and it wasn't a day too soon.
I wouldn't keep meat birds with layers ..
