Cleaning a Stock Tank to use as a Brooder?

Organic matter changes the bleach pretty quick thru oxidation, why you can't disinfect soil with bleach.
Maybe the remaining salts that are toxic to any further growth?

Ditto Dat^^^
No need for any disinfectant unless maybe prior chicks were diseased.

No chick disease issue, but don't know what may have taken refuge there during the 4 years outdoor storage.

I hose mine out and let them set in the sun a few days.

I'm far more worried about black widow spiders than any disease that may have been there.

I'd just go with 10% bleach spray, and very good rinse, then sun dry.
Thanks, that's my plan.

We do find those under rocks, bricks around the garden, that's why you have to wear gloves:)

I just looked them up; northern black widow spiders, very shy and reclusive so seldom seen. That's fine with me! And so true, brown recluse aren't so safe either, but messing with spiders barehanded is never a good idea, IMO. Mary

BW like damp, Recluse like dry.
Found a BW with an egg sac on the underside of my pond filterpit cover.
As I am wont to do, I got it all in a jar (with a very tight lid) to ID and observe.
Fascinatingly horrifying out of that sac hatched hundreds of tiny BW's,
macabrely satisfying they all died in that jar.

I use a stock tank and large aquariums. Between cohorts I wash and dry in sun. During operation I employ a small fan to push moisture out. Airflow with deeper, solid walled containers can be too restricted to remove moisture from feces and spillage unless you are blasting setup with heatlamp. Shallow solid walls and very large stock tanks not so problematic.
