Cleaning your waterer

I use apple cider vinegar. Once a week I take a rag and give it a rub with the vinegar, and then add a bit in the water as well. I have a severe reaction to bleach (this has built up over time) and only use diluted white vinegar for my housecleaning as well. It does a fabulous job with the housework as well as the coop and waterers.

once a week or two i bring the 1 gallon water station in and use non chlorinated bleach and dawn in it. let it soak for 30 minutes then a good hot rinse followed with a good cold rinse. after that i fill it with water and add a teaspoon of some apple cider vinegar that has the "mother" in it. i fill it everyday and if it needs a quick rinse its done.

I keep a spray bottle of pure bleach and a 3m dish scrubber outside during warm weather. Each time I water them I spray their waterers with the pure bleach then scrub with the 3m pad.I rinse them well and then add the ACV.I use probably 1tbls per gallon of water but I don't measure it out.Just a glug or two. Will

lemon soap (natural pest deterrent) or vinegar and a scrub brush. We put a cone on the top of it and noone perches anymore. You can buy the cone at any hardware store. It's a samll one that fits right over the lid of the water, not the big ones you find on the highway, lol. I also use a tbls per gallon of water.

You'll know if you add to much because then the chicken won't drink the water.

Is it true that we should not put ACV in our metal waterers? I've held off on the ACV because I was unsure.

I was using bleach until I read on Estes Hatchery Website NOT to use bleach. Then a farmer I know here told me it can make the layers sterile. I guess the plastic absorbs it. Now, just to be safe I just use Dawn.
