I think you shoulda called the law. Even if you didnt feel threatened. This way they come to understand what a closed gate means.

At my house I open the gate in the morning and close it in the evening. If one of my friends comes by and the gate is closed they know to keep moving because they know the closed gate means I aint wantin company.

For some reason, religious solicitors think they are exempt from any type of signs. I used to have a NO SOLICITING sign up. I met them at the door and flat out told them they could explain to the sheriff why they think the sign means everyone but them !

They usually leave pretty fast after hearing that !

I don't get many "visitors", but here in Hollywood the most persistent are the LDS, but the most annoying are the AME and Baptists!

I know people are really concerned about being sued these days, so my gate sign has a sillhouette of a Terv and says: Dogs in yard; do not enter.
It keeps most, but not all people out. Guess if they don't see the dogs they figure they are safe.
It also helps that my gate is big and wooden, and the latch is on the inside. It's pretty hard to open unless you know how, and even then it's a challenge at times.

Grief. Not surprised. Some people really think animals in the yard is an open invitation to come on IN the yard and mess with them. Just another example of people not simply understanding the concept of 'private property'. Or as like someone said, the religious people can think laws or the usual common sense concepts don't apply to them. Annoying!

I've had to resort to putting locks on ALL gates and no trespassing signs(be sure to get the yellow ones) every few feet on the fence. The only way they can get in is to climb the fence but then they'll only meet a VERY ticked off ME.....
