Cloudy Days in the Coop - My Adventures with Chickens.

Pics
Happy New Year's Eve, everyone! 2020 has definitely been a different year, and it has been pretty rough at points. But one thing that I’ve learned, and will never forget, is how special each life is, and how unique each person is, and that the time we get with those people should be cherished. :) Anyway, on to the fluffy chickens! Today, I did let them out to get some grass for 8 minutes with me standing amongst them, rake in hand. I know, I probably shouldn’t have, but some of the girls clearly needed a break from their VERY muddy run. It’s been drenching, pounding rain for the past few days, so their run has been pretty bad. (Need to get that covered part up as soon as the storm lets up!) Also, I got my chickens a brand new waterer, which is 5 gallons and is pretty nice, so I think they’re enjoying it. Also, Mochi needs some help, as you’ll see in the pictures, she’s covered in mud! I’m thinking about giving her a bath or something of the sort.
Also, their feeder needs a nice washing, it’s caked in mud. So. Much. Mud!
Sorry, I’ll stop complaining now. :D Mud does happen to be part of life when you're living in a very rainy spot - but I love it just the way Washington is, earthquakes, mud, and all. :D

Thank you, everyone, for your kind words, sticking around and encouraging me when times are rough, and taking part of these adventures with my flock with me. You all are the best. Thank you. :hugs
Happy New Year Lucy :hugs and everyone else in this thread!! I think we have all been through the wringer this year in some form or another, let's hope 2021 shines a bit brighter on all of us!

Lucy your photos are just as stunning as ever, so much color!! Oh dear Mochi does need a bath, look at that top knot! :p Well what can you do with all that mud. At least they got to get out for some free ranging time, they all look fabulous!

Glad you are feeling better Lucy, :hugs sometimes we all need time to ourselves to recenter. Stay dry out there, oh and send some of that wet stuff down here! :)

Gorgeous photos, Starburst! I've missed them.
Happy New Year to everyone here -- I hope that it will be much better than this 2020 thing.
Personally, I would demand a refund and a replacement, but I don't think that that's possible.
Happiest of years to you all. Whatever comes in the next cycle, may we all be blessed with strength and hope to get through it.

2020 has been a great year of learning and growing closer to others in our homes.

The waterer looks marvelous! How will you keep it from freezing?

I'm also not so chipper about the weather in my area, I like either lots of snow, or warm weather. Not rain, and spirits of snow, slush, and cold weather.I

The pictures are beautiful and the hens look wet, but happy. I'm glad they got some free-range time! Poor Mochi, she does look like she needs a bath . I know of a great article about bathing silkies on BYC made by @Fur-N-Fowl

Happy New Year to you too, Leyla! I do agree, this year really has been rough, but it is my hope that this coming year, we can all find the peace and hope that helps us to stay strong in the worst storms. :)

Thank yo, Leyla, for your kind words! I’ll let you all know when Mochi is nice and clean. ;) Hopefully when I try to bathe her, she won't be too upset!

I can’t tell you how glad I am to be back in this amazing community full of caring and kind people, but I’m also glad I took a small break to get back on track. :)
Hugs! :hugs

Thank you, Sapphire Sebright! I’ve missed being here! You always do seem to have a way to make me smile, thank you! :hugs

I definitely agree! This year has been a time to learn and adapt, and to grow close with those around us. :)

With my new waterer, I have this heating base that turns on at freezing temperatures and keeps it from freezing! I’ll have to see how it goes!

Thank you for letting me know! I’ll check out the article. :)

Definitely show us a photo of the clean and fuzzy Mochi when she is all clean! :D I've given chickens baths before and usually the warm water is calming. I looked at the article by @Fur-N-Fowl and it is very detailed for bathing Silkies.

I am so glad you are back Lucy, you were missed! :hugs

Okay...so, I’m trying to get some supplies to bathe Mochi, and I can’t find baby shampoo. Do you think that hypoallergenic natural dog shampoo would work?
I am not an expert with the perfect soaps, but I do know that you don't want to use any stripping type shampoos on birds that removes too much of the natural skin oils. I have found that most dog soaps are very mild and can be used on birds. So I will say yes on the natural dog soap. :)
