EIGHT YEARS!
So much could have been done to get us away from foreign oil and onto the EV plan in the last eight years. But NOTHING was done. And this is now Obama's fault? Listen. I voted for the guy. I thought he was the better choice after 8 YEARS of Bush. Do I agree with everything Obama has done? Nope. But the one thing I can not stomach is the fact that Bush did nothing but destroy this country in the 8 YEARS he was in office. Yet it seems like many people think he did nothing wrong.
I guess what I saw and lived through was an alternate reality.

BTW. I currently own a Hyundai, which although has had it's issues is a much better car than my previous Chevy truck was. Or my Mercury Cougar was. Or the Ford farm truck was. My next car is going to be a Chevy Camaro(2010) Yes I am getting an auto LOAN for it *gasp*
But I know that the cars already out there are having some "issues" as well.
I love my country. But I am not so blinded by flag waving yahoos to see that both "sides" are at fault over all. And that it didnt begin within the last few months.

Now I remember the reasons why I stopped coming to this board.

It doesn't matter where you stand politically to see that this current administration is wasteful, egotistical and forceful. Common sense alone should tell you that the "Clunkers" program and the "Health Care Reform" program aren't going to aide the economy. The Clunkers was just a short term quick bolster, but what happens when it's over? Car sales are going to fluctuate regardless. How about job stability? Again, it was said if they pushed through the "stimulus" program unemployment would not go above what was it, 9%? Michigan alone is hurting the unemployment rate with our lovely 15%. It just seems like Obama and his administration are pushing through this poop at an amazingly fast rate and it is by far more costly then our previous presidents.

I know that our current governor was a bit angry at the guy running against her - he is stating that if the prisons are closed, or if we take in prisoners from other states, then that means some of the criminals that should remain in prison are going to be released which means that dangerous criminals could be put back on the streets with no jobs available. It won't be long before these newly released prisoners are back to committing crimes, possibly even murder. What was our governor's response? That this guy is using the "scare" tactic to try and get votes. Ummm, I think he is being honest and just telling us what we all know. When is the truth such a scary bad thing?

Again, I will say COMMON SENSE is what people need to be utilizing with this new administration. Just look at all the "clunkers" that could have been used for people who couldn't afford a new car - just look at all the money that is going to have to be paid by the government to the dealerships - guess where that money is coming from - YOU AND ME. I just wish they would have consulted with me where I wanted my $4500 to go..... Now multiple that by a lot of vehicles and that is what we are indebted for currently.

At least in the short run, it looks like the dealers are in for a big slowdown again, but the auto makers are already putting people back to work.

Sounds like, from this article, that the dealers are down to very low inventory levels and the auto makers are calling people back to work.

Good for everyone, I'd say. The dealers were getting hit hard earlier in the year, with a lot of expensive inventory sitting idle and getting older, costing them money. Now they're down to very little on the lot, and the auto manufacturers are increasing production and putting autoworkers and parts suppliers back to work.

Have you talked to anyone that works for GM? I just got off the phone with a friend who works there, her husband works there, sister and brother-in-law as well. She went in expecting to work a full day, but only got 5 hours today. There's already talk about lay offs and she's only been back to work for about a month after being laid off for about 9 months.

Different plants make different vehicles. Some of the plants are bringing people back, and I suppose some probably aren't. I expect managing GM is like steering a battleship, nothing happens quickly with regard to staffing decisions.

One of our subsidiaries is a GM supplier, so we watch what's going on there closely. Their overall inventory levels are very low, so we expect that things will have to pick up over the next few months. Things had been slow for a long time prior.

Can't predict tomorrow, that's individual plant management, but the next few months will probably show some slow improvement.

I am with you. I don't for the life of me understand why people think my hard work is transferable? I work 3 jobs and I'm a single mom - if I can make it everyone can. I work 7 days a week at LEAST 10 hours a day (some days more like 16) and I will choose to help out those who have fallen on hard times, not the government.

The Auto Manufacturers own the new cars on the dealers lots!! Just a fact most people thinks the dealers buy these and resale, NOT.

Most dealers have to pay for cars upon order, less an amount called holdback (some pay the invoice amount, then get reimbursed for holdback amounts). If the car sits more than 90 days, they've eaten up the holdback amount and are not likely to make much profit on that vehicle. The contracts between manufacturers and dealers are complicated, and I won't pretend to know all about them, but cars sitting idle on a dealer's lot are costing the dealer money.

Who is holding the title is immaterial ... the dealer has cash tied up, and idle inventory costs the dealer money.

Why are all you people that work 28 hrs a day so anxious to make the fat cats so much fatter? This health plan will help everyone. It will reduce the debt in the long run. Heath care is out of control. Our country spends either 12 or 16% of it's GNP on health care compared to other so called Socialists countries. I say so called because they are called that by the conservatives that are soaking up all the money from the insurance companies and big pharma. Our current health care system is not sustainable. It seems like a lot of people on this forum don't understand that if you are in a group plan where you work, your employer is probably paying a good chunk of your health insurance costs. You should take advantage of it while you can. Insurance cost are expected to double by 2025. Employer provided heath care will become a thing of the past. Yeah I know. a bunch of you are saying "Well I pay everything cash anyway, if I can do it than everyone should be able to do it" Wait a few years. See how much you can afford to pay when you get cancer or Parkinsons or degenerative disc syndrome or Rheumatoid Arthritis or any number of diseases that are not classified as an emergency but are either causing you severe pain or killing you none the less. Then there's the people that say well you can always go to the Emergency room. That kind of thinking is truly irresponsible fiscal thinking.

Thank goodness you guys are in the minority. There will be health care reform. Obama realizes that he is dropping in the poles because his own base is getting tired of him letting the party of No have any say in anything. I believe he will be able to shove this legislation through. At that point the party of NO will become the party of NO consequence.

Meanwhile some of the stuff I've read just makes me shake my head and wonder what happened to this country.

Beak, can you name Three MAJOR gov't run programs that run at or below budget and are run efficiently? Also, did you and the rest of the "YES WE CAN HOPE CHANGE WE HATE BUSH" crowd consider yourselves the "party of no"when you were against EVERYTHING that Bush ever did or said. Or were yall just "standing up to BIG OIL" and that "evil GW BUSH". Anyway, Give me THREE programs. GO>
