I do it mainly so that I can pull any clears the first week. I figure there is no need for her to keep any bad eggs warm. She might as well save the space for the ones that will develop. Then I remove any quitters before "lock down" so there is not a chance of a rotten egg getting trampled.

Good luck with the broody!

I hatched 6 a few weeks ago (5 weeks, I think). 3 blue and 3 black. I have a blue frizzle bantam boy in with a cuckoo bantam cochin female and 2 female white silkies. The 3 girls eggs are very similar, so I set several eggs, hoping to figure out exactly who the momma's are. (seems so backwards to know the daddy, but not the momma... lol!)

But here are a few of the chicks. Only one has 5 toes, so I know it came from a silkie, plus a few of the others have walnut combs, so they must be silkies too. But I might have a couple pure cochins in there, I hope? I think the black frizzle is full cochin female (no white head dot)

Think this one is silkie/cochin mix.

Straight comb and not as much poof on the head, but looks male, so should be barred, but had no white head dot.
So maybe its actually a full cochin female?

think this is silkie/cochin mix female.

I love Frizzles in bantam Cochins! I have blue Mottled Frizzles, black Mottled Frizzles and Mille Fleur Frizzles. I just set up more breeding pens this week. Frizzles are my favorites but I breed some other varieties that I do not add Frizzle to like the buff barred and the red barred. I haven't any plans to breed those into Frizzles.
I love them! Hope I can get one from you one day!
