Cochin Bantams and Frizzle Cochin Bantams!!

Cool! I heard some things about frizzles like their feathers cause them pain. (No offense!)

I have 3 frizzles and 1 sizzle hens... no frizzle roo or no frazzles in my coop. All 10 of me breeding roos are smooth feathered.

No pain in my girls feathering as I hold and pet them all the time plus their spoiled lil pets! All 66 of my feathered babies!


Also, just opened my coop up today. My birds now have a coop that is 36ft long by 9ft deep. And their run is 24ft deep by 36ft long. Just waiting on the flight netting to put over the run before making a door to it. My birds are gonna love their new run in the spring. Also gonna make them a sand box too soon as the snow melts off.

I am not exactly sure what you mean by that. You get a fraazle breeding a frizzle and frizzle together. A frazzle has two copies of the frizzle gene

So, how is it a frazzle?

Frizzle is a dominant gene; if you have a frizzle chicken, he or she has one frizzle gene and one smooth gene.
If you breed two frizzles together, there's a 50% chance of getting frizzles (b/c the chicks will have gotten a frizzle gene from one parent and a smooth gene from the other);
there's a 25% chance of getting a smooth chick (b/c that's the chances of the chick getting a double copy of each parent's smooth gene);
and there's a 25% chance of getting a frazzle (b/c the chick will have ended up with a double copy of the parents' frizzled gene).
This double copy of the dominant frizzle gene messes up the feathers and makes them painful for the frazzled bird.

It doesn't make sense that its feathers are sensitive? Apparently they have sensitive nerves. I don't know why, but apparently there is something in their genes that causes them to be have extreme sensitivity to touch. Maybe it is a mutation or soemething. I can't say for sure, i know some genetics, but I am not a genetics guru.

It's just the label for a chicken with a double copy of the dominant frizzle gene.
frizzle gene + smooth gene = "a frizzle"
frizzle gene x 2 = "a frazzle"

That's what I want to do. Get whatever hens I want, and then keep all my roos smooth feathered. =D

My frizzle is my baby; she's my "Snoodle Doodle pretty girl", and she says that right back to me (in chicken, of course), but you can tell she's copying the sounds I made.

And I don't want her babies to suffer, so I'm only letting her mate with smooth roos.
