We had a great year at the Missouri State Fair this year! Out of the Asiatic Class we won Champion Cockerel and Champion Hen with our large buffs.. We are very happy the Asiatic is a tough class always..

My, my, he certainly is striking, takes my breath away. I so much wish I had a way to raise Columbians, even my Birchens give me fits. I just can't keep enough UV off of them and the roos particularly get tawny eventually. They're gorgeous right after a molt, but it goes down hill from there. Besides the obvious, any suggestions? I hang sheets up around the runs during the day - two fold, it increases their shade and I THINK it helps to reduce the UV light. I'd love to know if there is anything else I can do short of a building which I can't afford at this time.

My offer still stands that I will bring you a young male that you could breed to your pullet.

Craig, if I can get the UV screen (meaning afford it..........I'm poor) I'll take you up on it. She is getting prettier every day - don't have to tell you I'm sure.
Thanks!

Here is a link to one supplier, I do have access to a bulk supplier and make some household Solar screens ourselves for a contract we hold. But for the average person this is a good resource, 3ft x 100ft is about 200. Or you can buy it by the linear foot in 3, 4. or 6 ft hight.

Welcome to all the BYC members that are just now finding this thread because it's a featured topic thread in today's BYC Monthly Newsletter!!

It looks like my Black and White Mottled "pullet" is a rooster, so if down the line I was to hatch eggs what would I expect color wise with a buff hen and a white hen with the black and white mottled as dad? Oh and some pictures:

The Buff one (I really need to name them) who is about 13 months:

The black and white mottled about 3 months old:

and the pretty little white one, also 3 months:

I'm going to jump out and take a risk because of the nature of this thread; I hope I don't offend you and please understand that is not my intent. That said, do you have a goal in mind, a color that you are trying to develop? You might find that there isn't as much of a demand for the "mixed" colors as you would hope, and if you decide to mix these colors the way you have planned you could end up with a LOT of chickens that no one wants, or at least no one that you would feel comfortable with. You can always get rid of chickens, you can't always command the best homes for them. That's one of the reasons I try so hard to produce a bird that follows the breed standard. I figure if it is a really good bird, it stands a better chance of ending up with a really good home.
Cute girls, particularly your white, she looks rather nice from what I can tell.

No you don't offend me with you question, there is no particular point I'm just curios what colors would/might come out such a cross if I was to hatch eggs (which probably wouldn't happen). These girls (and surprise guy who was suppose to be a girl) where bought to keep my blind rooster company.
Thanks, from my understanding the former owner bought the white along with several other whites from a breeder.
