Cochin or d'uccle bantam chicks?

I wasn't even aware that pet stores sold chickens.

Call them and ask where they get them from. That will help you immensely.
Ok, just called!! I feel like I am on an investigation 😂 So they said they get them from Ideal Poultry, but the shipment just says "assorted bantam", it doesn't specify what is in them.

Mystery solved! Great work detective. :gig

She does look like a d'Uccle. I've just never seen that color.
I have been googling, and it must be a custom color they developed at Ideal, no one else mentions it. I'll have to post some pics through her stages. The other two chicks match up to their white and mille fleur d'uccle!! I am so excited!!

Thank you for the tips! I have been racking my brain. I am trying to accommodate the indoor coop and supplies based on size of bird.. so being a D'Uccle vs cochin means they can fit through the coop doorways without me having to hack saw it!!

So my silkies also are from there, and I have a partridge and a grey.. they are all going to be so beautiful!!

Definitely post pics when they get a bit older and I'll do the same!

Yes, they change so quickly too!!

So I had been reading that chickens can make it to 8-15 years old, which is what I need (I get so depressed when my pets die, can take months to a year to get over it). But I discovered today that bantams age expectancy is only 4-8!! I'll have mine inside, so hopefully that will make a difference.

Some hatcheries have a LOT of "purebred" chicks that look more like mixes. I don't think they're all true mixes ... but it does appear that little to no attention is paid to standards. Unfortunately, that's especially true of a lot of hatchery silkies. With that in mind, if you're not planning to show, it shouldn't matter. Regardless of their heritage, they're pretty babies - and if they retain that sweet disposition, you're a winner!

At best, itll be a showing at 4H!! 🤣

D'uccle. Porcelain and Mille Fleur.

I have 2. One male (mille). One female (porcelain). They are the most affectionate of my bantams. The roo lets us pet him and seeks us out.
