Cochin Thread!!!

I agree, it seems birds raised by the hen are a bit more skiddish then birds you hatch from an incubator. I have 7 birds I just took from a hen, they are crazy.

And Gail, thank you! Your words me so much. :)

Love Cochins but I have a question I have a black Cochin hen who is five months old anyway I was wondering is it normal for them to get brown lacing in their feathering? I got her at a feed/ ranch store with some silkys . I'll have to get her picture I just noticed it the other day but in was just wondering. Thank you :)

can i see a blue cochin? im really into cochins and would love a blue cochin (or any cochin really, but i heard blue cochins are very pretty)

Been a while since I posted any pictures. 1st Picture is of some of this years Columbians

Next male is 1 year old that I was lucky enough to get from Tom. I need a faster camera because he was always turning and I didn't get a decent shot worthy of him.

Another male and a pic of eye color even though out of focus gives a good base line.

Mandy, how are your GL's and BLR's coming this year? We have to compare notes!
here's some pics of what I have so far this year that has turned out decent. I have only 1 pullet that has complete lacing. The females have been extremely hard to get single lacing on. What have you had so far, don't think I've seen you post any updates or if you did I missed them

here's my first male from last year

my first cockerel from this year

second cockerel from this year

youngest BLR Cockerel

Incomplete BLR Pullet

Incomplete BLR Pullet

a pullet that I'm still not sure what she'll be..

and just for fun, a pretty blue buff columbian pullet

Sorry Everyone . . . no subscription emails again, so I thought the thread was being quiet. So I just went thru and tried to catch up.

BO - So glad to see you still follow along, even if we don't hear from you very often. Your years of expertise are always welcome and appreciated, and needed!

CLARE - Almost didn't recognize you with the new avatar!!

CASEY - I have yet to see one of your whites that I wasn't drooling over.

SELF BLUES - Until I learned that the true meaning of "Self" was that they breed true (as opposed to the Andalusian Blue), I used to think it meant they were solid blue (no lacing, no dark hackles, etc). That came from my love of Bearded Irises, where a "Self" of any color means that the standard and falls are all of one uniform color.

TEMPERMANT - Does anyone notice a difference in the tempermant when the chicks are hand raised in a brooder vs. with their hen? Mine all love to cuddle, and especially seem to love to have their breasts stroked, but that wasn't true of chicks I've let the hen hatch and raise.

PET PEEVE - Punnett Squares are driving me crazy lately!

JUST FOR FUN - I bought the following on eBay last week. I'm not from Texas, but what the heck!

Hi Gail!

Hi, so I am looking for some show cochins any color. I live in Minnesota and would like to get some nice quality ones sometime in late September or October. My goal is to start showing next summer at local fairs so I would like some nice show quality. If anyone knows where I can get some or will be having any hatches around that time I would love to talk to you to see what you have! Just message me! Thanks!

Forgot to mention I want standard NOT bantam.

You might want to try Duane Urch in Owatonna, MN. You can Google him for his phone # - there is no website. I believe he prefers to be phoned in the evenings.
