Cochin Thread!!!

I have been reading old posts and was intrigued by this comment about a foot defect involving the outer toe possibly being webbed to the middle toe. Does anyone have any pics ot that defect? Do you see other problems frequently cropping up in conjunction with this defect? I have seen problems like these in the first line of cochins I started with and would appreciate any information. Also I have mottled hatching eggs in the incubator now and have questions about that variety. I have seen some lovely blue mottled pictured in this thread, how far are they from being accepted by the APA/ABA? Can blue mottled be shown under other varieties? Thanks for any help.

there is a group trying to put together a meet to get splash accepted and I don't see why if we can get the breeders and numbers together at a meet we couldn't get blue mottled in there too. for the ABA we need 5 breeders with 25 birds. we were trying to put something together possibly for the ohio national next year

as far as the toe thing, it kind of sounds like where feather footed birds get a smaller outer toe with no nail. it can appear to be webbed. I think it's only points off and is not a DQ but NEVER breed 2 of these together.

I accidentally crossed a mottled and partridge and got this so I think you would get birds like this and ones that were blue too. in order to get patterned birds, both the parents need to be patterned. this bird here is mainly leakage. he started as a solid black baby

i'm not positive, but something like this maybe? they're both blue partridge girls... Mandy could probably say more on what went into making these girls, since they were hers until this spring. (Thanks again!!!)

Thank you guys!!! This is super helpful and I love the pictures. Hopefully I get some blue partridge chicks, your girls are so pretty. I can't wait til hatch day.

Does anyone have a picture of good looking LF partridge rooster, so I know what one is supposed to look like. I don't know enough about Cochins to know if mine is any good or not. He seems too tall to me.

these are my 3 white cochin bantams hopefully ill get some babies in the spring....the third one is in rough shape in the picture
gorgeous birds. I always love the whites, but for some reason I can't keep a white animal white whtout frequent bathing. LOL that applies to my 2 paint horses (buckskin and palomino paints), my white std poodle, or my white cochins. they all end up various shades of beige.

gotta love that red virginia clay...

Attempt at Mille Fleur? Very poor gold laced??
I started out on the Breed/Gender site with a Silkie I have and had this question with it.
I wondered what color this bantam Cochin is supposed to be?. The two suggestions were... color project mille fleur and poor quality gold laced. I am not trying to get different answers by jumping back and forth between forums, I should have started here.
My last comment there is that the man I bought him from doesn't do projects but he does raise purebred birds. I wasn't planning on this bird/breed when i went to see him but when I saw the roo parent he had, chicken math kicked in.
I don't recall him saying either of those colors, but maybe he did.. If I can find his number again...I have been looking...I will call but he lives too far away to drive back for just that.
Maybe one of those colors above is correct and I didn't hear correctly...I wouldn't say I always hear everything 100%.
Anyway...here is the bantam roo Cochin that I shouldn't have bought but did!!! He is about 2-3 months old?

8 weeks is a little young. A picture might help. Not all noise a youngster makes is necessarily a crow.
